The Alabama National Cemetery grounds were consecrated June 18, 2009 and encompasses 479 acres of land to serve veterans’ needs for at least the next 50 years. Currently, it is the final resting place for 1,000 veterans.

About the local event organizer:

 

Michael Thorin

As a service connected disabled veteran of the U.S. Army and the Alabama Army National Guard, SGT Michael Thorin also served as a firefighter Captain and paramedic. His many honors include the Firefighter of the Year award from the City of Hoover FD and the Freedom Award for service members from the Hoover board of Commerce. Michael currently serves as a Board Member for the Victory for Veterans Foundation, and is actively giving his time in support of veterans. Since its inception in 2017, Michael has headed the Flower on Every Grave Initiative at the Alabama National Cemetery.
